God's Holy Days
Sabbath
Sabbath the first of God’s feast listed in Lev. 23:3. Our Creator states, “Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.” We pray that we each can acknowledge that this is an appointed time of our Creator, it is God and that He alone that can designate what is holy. In this case it is the seventh day that He, God has designated as Holy, and has been set apart from the other six days. In Genesis 2:3; “Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.” There was never a question asked of Christ our Lord about which day was and is the Seventh day Sabbath. The questions asked of Christ were about what work could be done on the Sabbath. Our Lord replied as recorded in Mark 2:27-28, that God had indeed made the Sabbath for mankind and that He was also Lord of the Sabbath. There was never any question as to whether it was to be observed or not. It is our prayer that our Creator, God, will grant you understanding of His Sabbath and the privilege to bare witness of HIM in your observance of it. (Heb. 4:9 declares to us… that there yet remains a rest for the people of God… of which verse :4 clearly refers to as the seventh day Sabbath of Gen. 2:3) It is our prayer that God will grant you the blessing of Sabbath observance.
Passover
As Christians, we even as the first disciples hear the voice of Christ instructing us to go and make other disciples. When they believe, baptize them, and then teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you (Matthew 28:19-20). In instructing the Corinthian Gentiles, the Apostle Paul taught them to keep the feast (1 Corinthians 5:6-8). But to do so in the marvelous light, which was being, and is now revealed in and through the new priesthood of Christ Jesus (Hebrews 7:11-12).
God has made known to His Church that the substance of His Feast is Christ Jesus our Lord an Savior (Colossians 2:17). Christ is indeed our Passover Lamb and has been sacrificed for us. In (John 6:53-58,63-64) Christ says we must eat of His flesh and drink of His blood. As branches within the body of Christ Jesus, we keep the Passover observance each year remembering that Christ Jesus shed His blood for the remission of sins, our sins (Matthew 26:28, Luke 22:19). It is our prayer that God will grant you understanding of the Passover observance.
Unleavened Bread
As we again reference the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, we as those of the body of Christ of the new Priesthood are instructed to keep the feast, but not with old unleavened practices (1 Corinthians 5:8); that of removing all leavening agents, and whatever is leavened from our homes. We keep the feast in the understanding of what the old customs pointed too, that being the removal of sin from our lives. For leaven is merely a symbol of sin in our lives, it has no power of itself. The Feast of Unleavened Bread has a seven-day observance period. The first day and the seventh day are annual Sabbaths on which holy convocations (gathering) are to be held. In loving obedience to God, we assemble on those Holy Days in recognitions of the work our Lord has begun in us and has promised to finish (Philippians 1:6).
The fifteenth of the month of Abib is to be observed as the first day of Unleavened Bread. It symbolizes the beginning of God’s work of removing sin from our lives. This began the movement, We accepted Christ Jesus sacrifice for the remission or payment of our sin. The last day of the seven-day observance is observed to commemorate Christ finishing His work in us. It is our prayer that the God and Father of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus will bless you to understand the observance of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Pentecost
Pentecost (count fifty). For the people of God this was to be and yet is a festive time, a time of rejoicing before the Lord. Yes, a time of thanksgiving and praise for God’s many blessings bestowed upon them and us. All the household, servants, and visitors, all were to participate in this celebration (Deuteronomy 16:11) As we have come to understand, God’s feast days actually reveal His plan of salvation for all of mankind (Leviticus 23:17). These two loaves can be representative of those called before Christ sacrifice and of those called after His sacrificial death and resurrection. They can also represent those of Israel and those of the Gentile Nation He did and would call.
In this feast we see in Israel’s first fruit offering, the revelation of God’s church. (James 1:18) The spring harvest was a small harvest, consisting of the first fruit to come from the crop in the year. So, it is with God’s church, it is just a small harvest. The celebration of Pentecost (count fifty) recounts and points to the fulfillment of yet another promise of our great God, the giving of His Holy Spirit. Prayerfully the God of Abraham will grant you understanding.
Feast of Trumpets
There is not a great deal said of Trumpets observance in Leviticus 23:23-25, however it does state very clearly that this is a memorial. It is something to be remembered, and to do so by blowing the trumpet and or the ram’s horn (Shofar). The time of the Feast of Trumpets is clearly noted as the first day of the seventh month of God’s calendar year. In seeking to understand what this Feast is now foretelling and will be remembered for, We can begin with the seventh trumpet blast announcing the reign of Christ over the Earth (Revelation 11:15). Next, we hear of the trumpet blast at the first resurrection that will awaken and gather the saints of God to rule with Christ at His return (Matthew 24:31). In times of old God gave the blowing of the trumpet as a means of assembling the people together for various reasons, war being one of them, but in this instance it shall be to announce the return of Christ Jesus the Lord of lords. So why would we as the people of God not want to celebrate and observe, even on into eternity, the Feast of Trumpets.
Atonement
The Feast of Atonement provides us with a view into God’s plan of salvation for all of mankind that is as would be said today, action packed.
There were a great number of things the Israelite priest were required to perform during this Feast (Deuteronomy 16:1-30). As for the people, they were to afflict their souls (fast) as they observed this High Sabbath rest day (Deuteronomy 16:31). So you could ask, what does all of this have to do with me, for all of this is Old Testament stuff. Some will say I am under the new covenant and those things have nothing to do with me. Well here I would ask you to go to your Bible and read for yourself what the new covenant is and with whom it is made (Hebrews 8:7- 10, Jeremiah 31:31-33). Well the next question should be, then just how do I as a non-Israelite get into the new covenant with God? (Romans 11:11-18) Has God appointed a High Priest over His new covenant church? (Hebrew 2:14-18)
Now knowing what the Bible says in these passages, hopefully you will begin to see what this Feast points to in God’s plan of salvation. There is recorded in the book of Acts and event (Acts 8:26-39). This person needed and wanted help in understanding God’s word. I believe somewhere along the way he prayed and asked God for help and God answered. There should be no shame in not knowing, but rather to not seek and even greater to not receive. Feast of Tabernacles
The Feast of Tabernacles is God’s defining statement to mankind that His way can and indeed really does work.
In Deuteronomy 16:13-15, Leviticus 23:34-39 we see God’s instruction to His chosen people concerning the specifics of this appointed time. As we observe these special times today as the church of God, we do so in the light of His revelation of Christ’s fulfillment of all the offerings that God requires. We do so in the knowledge that this Feast points to the reign of Christ on this earth for a thousand years (Revelation 20:4), at which time God will make known to mankind that His way can and does indeed work. For those of you that are really concerned about doing the will of God, regardless of what others may say, I encourage you to read Zechariah 14:1,16-19. May God bless you and grant you understanding.
The Last Great Day
In Leviticus 23:36 God adds another day to the seven-day celebration of Tabernacles. Here it is termed the eighth day. God pronounces it too be a Holy time of gathering. As was noted with the observance of Trumpets, there is not a great deal said about the observance of this Feast, so we look then to what it foretells. For those that can believe, we see and hear Christ Jesus speaking as to the prophesied time of the fulfillment of the eight-day Feast of God (John 7:37- 39). According to Revelation 20:7-15, after the thousand-year reign of Christ here on this earth has expired, a series of events will take place. Among these is the dethroning of Satan for eternity, and we see the resurrection of the rest of the dead. After being resurrected, those of this resurrection must be judged (Revelation 20:12). We proclaim by the word of God that judgement is now, in the present upon those that believe in Christ (1Peter 4:17). Christ said to His disciples, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given” (Matthew 13:11).
Apostle Paul writes about Christ’s Gospel being hidden (2 Corinthians 4:3-4). Our God declares he is not a respecter of person (Luke 20:21). We believe that in God’s plan of salvation, he has allotted the Last Great Day as that period of time for their judging, for then the books will be opened to them, even as they are now being opened to those that can believe.
It is our prayer that God will both grant you to understand and to begin observing His Feast Days.
